Marton Fucsovics vs Jannik Sinner Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Australian Open
by Steve Ashfield in Tennis Predictions
15th seeded Jannik Sinner has made a promising start to the 2023 Australian Open. He's yet to drop a set and now faces unseeded Marton Fucsovics in the third round. If winning this match he will take on either the third seed or Tallon Griekspoor in the last 16. Sinner began this tournament ranked 16th and is still in that position in the live rankings. The Italian only won one match in his first two Australian Opens but fared much better last year and reached the quarter finals. That was the first of three Grand Slam quarter finals Sinner made it to last year. The only time he failed to make it to the last eight was at Roland Garros where he lost in the last 16. This year has seen Sinner play just one warm-up tournament. That was the first Adelaide International in which he beat Kyle Edmund and Thanasi Kokkinakis before losing to eventual runner-up Sebastian Korda. This week has seen him again beat Edmund and also Tomas Martin Etcheverry both in straight sets and for the loss of only 13 games. He's 2-1 down to Fucsovics in previous meetings, the most recent though was on grass. He lost to Fucsovics in the 2020 Australian Open but at that time Sinner was only ranked 82nd in the world.
Marton Fucsovics is the world number 78 but up 10 places in the live rankings. The Hungarian has been playing Grand Slam events since 2011 but has not had a great deal of success. He's only reached one quarter final and that was two years ago at Wimbledon. Fucsovics has won as many matches in this tournament as he has in his five previous Grand Slam events. He's bidding to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open for the third time having done so in both 2018 and 2020. This year has already seen him win a singles tournament. That was on the Challenger Tour in Canberra but he didn't beat anyone ranked in the top 130. He then played the second Adelaide tournament and lost in the first round to Robin Hasse, who was ranked 257th at the time. He's shown better form this week but it's been a struggle to get to the third round. He had to win the final two sets to defeat Federico Coria in the first round and then four to beat Lloyd George Harris. Sinner looks in by far the better form at present and can win this in straight sets.
