Martina Trevisan vs Eugénie Bouchard Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Mutua Madrid Open

18th seeded Martina Trevisan is up against qualifier Eugenie Bouchard in the Madrid Open second round. Whoever wins this match will face either 15th seed Victoria Azarenka or unseeded Alyson Parks in round three. Trevisan was ranked 20th at the start of this WTA 1000 event and is up a place in the live rankings. Last year saw the Italian win her first WTA Tour clay court event with success in Morocco. 2023 has been an inconistent one for the 29-year-old. Trevisan had a win over Maria Sakkari in the United Cup but then struggled until reaching the last eight in Miami. This is only her second clay court tournament of the year, the other being in Stuttgart last week. That didn't go well with her losing the first set to Beatriz Haddad Mia and then retiring when it was 1-1 in the second. Her only previous match against Bouchard was won in straight sets thouh that was on a hard court.

Eugenie Bouchard was ranked fifth nine years ago but began this week in 285th position and 325th last month. The Canadian has had to rely on wildcards in recent years and this is her first time in a WTA 1000 event without one for four years. Bouchard had to come through the qualifiers in Madrid with two straight set wins, though her opponent in the first of those matches retired in the second set. The first round saw her beat fellow qualifier Dayan Yastremska. The first set was lost on a tie-break but the Canadian won the next two for the loss of only four games to win only her third main draw match of the year. Nine years ago she made it to the last four at Roland Garros but hasn't got past the third round since then. Back Trevisan to end her run.
