Unseeded Martina Trevisan bids to reach the quarter final of a Grand Slam for only the second time. The Italian faces another unseeded player, Aliaksandra Sasnovich for a place in the last eight against either Leylah Fernandez or Amanda Anisimova. Trevisan reached the last eight here two years ago and only at Roland Garros has she managed to get past the second round of a Grand Slam. Trevisan began this tournament ranked 59th (a career high)but is up to 45th in the live rankings. A win over Sasnovich will take her into the top 30. The 28-year-old has had little success on the WTA Tour this year but has improved since the clay court season began. A quarter final was reached in Anadlucia but no top 100 players beaten. A much better performance came in Rabat as she won a WTA 250 series tournament. That included beating Garbine Muguruza (not in the best of form) and Claire Liu in the final. That good form has continued at Roland Garros with wins over Harriet Dart, Magda Linette and Daria Saville with only 14 games lost.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich began the French Open ranked 47th and is up to 36th after three wins at Roland Garros. The Belarusian can go into the top 30 if making it to the last eight.. Sasnovich began her year by reaching the final of the Melbourne Summer Set 2 tournament, losing in the final to Amanda Anisimova who she could meet in the next round. It's been a bit inconsistent since then and her first two clay court matches were both lost. Better form came in Rome where she got to the last 32 and then the last 16 in Strasbourg. This is her first time past the second round at Roland Garros and only once before (Wimbledon in 2018) has the Belarusian got to the fourth round of a Grand Slam. Already this week Sasnovich has beaten two seeds at Roland Garros with a three-set victory over Emma Raducanu and a straight sets victory over Angelique Kerber. Go for her to get another success here.
