Sixth seed Marketa Vondrousova and the unseeded Marta Kostyuk will face-off next at the Stuttgart Open. They will square off in the semi-finals with the winner taking on Iga Swiatek or Elena Rybakina for the title. Marta Kostyuk defeated third seed Cori Gauff in three sets in the last round. She had to dig deep in the win and came from a set down against one of the favourites for the title. Kosyuk is having an exciting season and aside from compiling an 18-6 record, has already advanced to a final. This was in San Diego and since that run, she has advanced to her second consecutive semi-final. Before arriving in Stuttgart, Kostyuk had made the last four at Indian Wells. In Coachella, she was scheduled to match up with Vondrousova before the Czech withdrew. Kostyuk is now up to 23rd in the live ranking, a new career-high placing.

Marketa Vondrousova battled with fitness issues in the first quarter of the season. This restricted her to just 12 matches so far. She seems to have finally gotten over this going by her excellent run in Stuttgart. Vondrousova arrived at this WTA 500 event after more than a month since her last match. She won her first two rounds without dropping a set. To advance to this round, Vondrousova, who is back to seventh in the live ranking, defeated second seed Aryna Sabalenka. She came from a set down to secure her eighth win of the season and deny Sabalenka another run to the Stuttgart final. Vondrousova defeated Kostyuk on clay in their only encounter to date. This was last season at the Billie Jean King Cup.
