Seventh seed Marketa Vondrousova will next, at the Dubai Tennis Championship, battle the unseeded Sorana Cirstea. They will square off in the quarterfinals with the winner taking on either Jasmine Paolini or Elena Rybakina. Marketa Vondrousova is now one win away from equaling her best-ever result here. The Czech player produced a semifinal finish here two seasons ago. Vondrousova defeated Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets to advance to this round. It was a superb showing as she lost just four games in the tie. She has now moved up one place to seventh in the live ranking after earning her fourth win of the season. Vondrousova, who defeated Cirstea the first time they met, has had a shaky start to the year and has lost three times.

Sorana Cirstea has won the last two meetings with Vondrousova. The last encounter was last year on a hard court in Miami. Her success in this series should have the Romanian confident of progressing to the semifinals. Cirstea is in her eighth appearance in this WTA 1000 event. She has never gone past the quarterfinals and has equaled her best-ever result achieved 10 seasons ago. The 33-year-old is also having a topsy-turvy start to the year and has so far compiled a 6-5 record. All six wins however have come in her last eight outings. Cirstea defeated Donna Vekic in three sets in the last round. She has now equaled her highest world ranking after moving up one place to 21st in the live ranking.
