One of the matches of the first round sees Marketa Vondrousova take on Elina Svitolina. Both are unseeded and the winner will be up against sixth seed Jessica Pegula in round two. Read our first round match prediction.
Marketa Vondrousova is in good form after reaching the quarter-final in last week’s Abu Dhabi Open. Like that tournament, this Qatar TotalEnergies Open in Doha is being played on an outdoor hard court.
The former Wimbledon champion had been out injured since last July before returning at January’s Adelaide International. That didn’t go well with her retiring in her second round match. The Australian Open was missed before returning in Abu Dhabi last week.
These two players have met six times before and are level at 3-3. Svitolina leads 2-1 on hard courts but has lost her last three matches to Vondrousova.
Svitolina has reached one quarter-final this year, doing so in the Australian Open, losing in three sets to eventual champion Madison Keys. That was her first tournament since last August. Only one other event has been played, losing her first match in Linz to Anna Blinkova.
We could be in for a close match here. Our recommendation is to go for over 19.5 games to be played.

They have shared their six previous meetings, one being a Wimbledon semi-final. Vondrousova had a good run in Abu Dhabi last week, losing in the quarter-final to eventual champion Belinda Bencic.
