Fifth seed Magdalena Frech takes on wild card Marina Stakusic for a place in the Guadalajara Open semi-final. The winner plays either fourth seed Carolina Garcia or sixth seeded Marie Bouzkova next. Here's our match prediction.

Frech is playing in only her second WTA Tour hard court quarter-final of the year. The Pole has had to win two matches to get to this stage of what is a WTA 500 tournament. Those have taken her to 40th in the live rankings.

That's a new career-high for the 26-year-old whose previous best was the 42nd achieved in February. Round one of this tournament saw her beat Emina Bektas in straight sets but it was tougher in her most recent match.

Frech lost the first set to unseeded Ashlyn Krueger but fought back well to get the win. Only four games were dropped by her in the next two sets.

Marina Stakusic was down at 155th in the latest rankings. The Canadian has also set a new career-high this week and is now 127th in the live rankings, 13 places better than her previous best recorded last month.

Aged just 19, Stakusic had lost her last four matches before beginning this tournament. Her best results this year have been on the ITF circuit but she is yet to reach a semi-final this year.

The Canadian beat Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in straight sets in the first round. That set up a match against the top seeded Jolena Ostapenko. Stakusic won that in three sets, dropping the middle one.

That match took just over three hours to complete. There's been one previous meeting between these players and Stakusic won that last year in three sets on an indoor hard court. We tip Frech to get revenge here.
