Wildcard Marin Cilic will take on unseeded Zachary Svajda in the first round of the Hangzhou Open on Wednesday. This will mark their first career meeting and the winner will play Maximilian Marterer or Yoshihito Nishioka next. Below are stats ahead of this match and our prediction.

Marin Cilic will be making an attempt to win his first match at a tour event this year. The former US Open champion has struggled this season due to fitness issues that have impacted his form.

Cilic suffered a knee injury at the start of the 2023 campaign and has only played 11 matches since then. Nine of those matches have been this year. He has compiled a 3-6 record alternating between the tour and challenger circuits.

The former world number three is currently placed 777th in the ATP. He is coming off a quarter-final finish at the Cassis Challenger.

Zachary Svajda doesn’t have the tour accolades as Cilic but has had a decent season so far. He will be hoping to have enough in the tank to get the better of the 35-year-old.

The American has featured mostly in the challenger circuit where he has recorded one runner-up finish. He has compiled a 31-29 record and has twice won his opening-round fixture at a tour event.

The 21-year-old arrives to make his Hangzhou debut while on a two-match losing run. He was last in action three weeks ago, losing in the first round at the US Open. Svajda started the week having moved up five places and into 130th in the live ranking.
