Ugo Humbert is the only French player left in the singles of the Paris Masters. He takes on Marin Cilic who is yet to step on court in this tournament. Humbert is ranked 34th in the world and that's nine places above his opponent. He's been in good form of late winning a tournament in Antwerp last month beating both Pablo Correno Busta and Alex de Minaur. He is yet to make an impact in Grand Slam tournaments and if he wins this match, it'll be his first quarter final appearance in a Masters event. His good form has continued in Paris though with a win over second seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas.

His opponent reached the semi-final here three years ago and he was a quarter finalist in both 2017 and 2018. Last year wasn't so good for him with a second round exit. 2019 was the first year since 2007 in which he didn't win a tournament. His ranking has continued to slide this year and he hasn't reached a quarter final this year, let alone win an event. He's not had much luck with draws though, losing to Dominic Thiem in both New York and the French Open. His luck changed a bit in this tournament as his second round opponent Corentin Matet pulled out giving him a walkover. He won't find this match easy, though there'll be no crowd cheering on his French opponent. Humbert is in the better form and can win this match.
