Qualifier Marie Bouzkova will meet unseeded Liudmila Samsonova in the opening round of the Adelaide International. This will be their fifth meeting and the winner will square off with Belinda Bencic or Anna Kalinskaya for a place in the quarter-finals. Below is our prediction for this match.

Bouzkova is having a strong start to the season. The Czech player has featured in six matches already and claimed five wins.

She began her campaign in Brisbane, losing in the quarter-finals to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka. Bouzkova, who has won twice against Samsonova, won both of her qualifiers here via a decider.

She defeated Jule Niemeier to advance to the main draw and move up to 43rd in the live ranking.

Liudmila Samsonova has started the new season just as she ended the last. The Russian also began the year in Brisbane and lost in three sets to Polina Kudermetova in the first round.

She has now lost five in a row after ending the 2024 campaign with four successive losses. Samsonova’s second most recent victory came against Bouzkova.

That was via a decider in the second round of the US Open. She will be hoping for a similar result as she seeks to win a first-round tie in Adelaide for the first time since 2022. Samsonova is currently placed 25th in the live ranking.
