The winner will set up a quarterfinal showdown with either third-seed Elena Rybakina or the unseeded Sloane Stephens. Marie Bouzkova shocked fifth seed Caroline Garcia in three sets in the last round. Her 16th win of the season should have her confidant of being able to turn her campaign around in Montreal. The Czech has struggled with a lack of consistency this year and has lost more matches than she has won. She has compiled a 16-18 win-loss record with the majority of her victories as well as defeats coming on hard court. Advancing to this round has seen her move up three places to 34th in the live ranking. Bouzkova is a former semifinalist in Montreal, achieving the feat in 2019.
