Tomas Machac has a good chance of beating a seeded player in round two at Roland Garros. He faces Mariano Navone who is seeded 31st for this outdoor clay court Grand Slam. Machac is in top form at present after reaching the final of the Geneva Open last week. His wins included beating Novak Djokovic and Jack Draper before being beaten in the final by Casper Ruud. He's a career-high 34th in the latest rankings and up a place in the live list. The Czech has already had a good year in Grand Slam events, reaching the third round in the Australian Open where he beat 17th seed Frances Tiafoe. He also got to the last eight in this year's Miami Masters. Round one at Roland Garros saw him beat Nuno Borges in straight sets, his first ever win in this tournament. If he can win this match, then the third round opponent will be either unseeded Miomir Kecmanovic or fifth seed Daniil Medvedev.

Mariano Navone has become a history-maker already in this tournament. He's the first player ever to make his main draw Grand Slam debut and do so as a seeded player. The Argentinian probably didn't expect that to happen when beginning 2024 ranked only 125th. On clay this year he's reached the final in Bucharest and Rio with a semi-final appearance in Marrakech. He's also had success on the Challlenger Tour with a title won in Cagliari and a final in Buenos Aires.  Before this tournament though he had been struggling on the ATP Tour.. His debut Grand Slam match saw him beat unseeded Pablo Carreno Busta. He lost the first set but then rattled off the next three for the loss of only four games. Machac is in the form of his life though and we tip him to win this match.
