Mariano Navone is seeded seventh in the Grand Prix Hassan II tournament. He takes on unseeded Stan Wawrinka in round two of this outdoor clay court tournament. For the winner there's a quarter final against either second seed Sebastian Ofner or unseeded Aleksandar Vukic. Navone will want to build on the excellent form that he showed in the recent clay court tournament held in Rio, He made it to the final and wins included victories over Cameron Norrie and Yannick Hanfmann before being beaten by Sebastian Baez. He's now 60th in the rankings and up to a new career high of 57th after his first round win over wild card Aziz Dougzaz. He only dropped five games in winning that match. Navone began the year ranked 125th and began 2024 winning a Challenger Tour clay court event.

Stan Wawrinka is ranked 82nd in the world but was as high as third ten years ago. The Swiss player also won his first round match for the loss of only five games. He beat Albert Ramos Vinolas and that ended a run of three successive defeats. Wawrinka also played on the South American clay court tour in Buenos Aires and Rio. After winning his first match in Argentina, he lost the next two to Nicolas Jarry and Facundo Diaz Acosta. His win over Vinolas was only his second on the ATP Tour this year. Navone looks to be in the better form of the two and can make his way into the quarter finals.
