Sixth seed Maria Sakkari will on Tuesday take on the unseeded Linda Fruhvirtva at the China Open second round. Maria Sakkari is back in Beijing after five years and will hope to fare much better than she did in 2018. The Greek number one was eliminated in the first round which was her debut in the main draw. Sakkari has been in excellent form lately and arrives here having won eight of her last 10 matches. This rich vein of form saw her triumph in Guadalajara to secure her first title of the season. The world number six was however unable to replicate the Guadalajara feat in Tokyo and was eliminated in the semifinals. Sakkari has compiled a strong 36-20 record in 2023 and has won 24 of 36 matches on hard courts.

Linda Fruhvirtova was dominant in her opening-round victory over the unseeded Arantxa Rus. The Czech number nine surrendered just three games in the match and will hope it propels her towards causing an upset here. The 18-year-old has struggled with her form all through the season but seems to have settled her nerves in recent fixtures. She has recorded four victories in her last five outings. But before this spell, she had lost nine matches in a row. Fruhvirtova made it to the semifinals in Ningbo right before arriving to make her Beijing debut. She has recorded a 16-23 record and is currently ranked 88th in the live ranking. The winner will advance to play either 11th seed Daria Kasatkina or the unseeded Wang Xinyu next.
