Maria Sakkari will aim to get Greece off to a winning start in their United Cup quarter final against Germany. Sakkari is currently ranked eighth in the world but if she was to keep winning in this hard court team tournament, could climb as high as sixth. Sakkari started off this United Cup with a win over Chile's Daniela Seguel and only dropped one game in doing so. Her second singles match saw her beat Leylah Fernandez of Canada in straight sets with the first set going to a tie-beak. The 28-year-old won the Guadalajara title in September of last year but didn't have a good end to 2023 with her last five matches being lost. However, four were against players ranked in the top ten.

Angelique Kerber doesn't actually have a ranking at present. Her place in the German United Cup team is down to her protected ranking of 31st. The reason for that is last year saw Kerber off court as she gave birth to her first child. Before this tournament, her last event was the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, an event she has won in the past. It's not gone too well for Kerber so far in this United Cup. Her first singles match saw Kerber lose in straight sets to Jasmine Paolini but with Alexander Zverev she won the mixed doubles. Up next was a singles match against Caroline Garcia as Germany took on France. Kerber only dropped one game in the first set but only won four in the next two and was then beaten in the mixed doubles. Kerber leads 3-1 in previous meetings but the last match was in 2021. We tip Sakkari to win this match.
