Maria Carle vs Chloe Paquet Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Iasi Open

Maria Lourdes Carle and Chloe Paquet meet for the second time in a matter of days in the UniCredit Iasi Open in Romania. They previously met a week ago in the Palermo Open in Italy, where Paquet ran out a comfortable winner 6-3, 6-1. This first-round match is Carle's first game since that defeat, so will our prediction back her to gain revenge for that loss, or will we back the French star Paquet to land another victory?

After an outstanding end to 2023, seventh-seed Maria Lourdes Carle continued her great form into 2024. She won the W75+H Vero Beach in Florida in January, then followed that with quarterfinal appearances in Rome and Irapuato and a semi-final finish in Puerto Vallarta. She claimed her second title of the year at La Bisbal d'Emporda in April and reached the third round of the Spanish Open in Madrid.  

Since then her form has deserted her, and she has failed to progress past the second round of any tournament since. Her last game was in the second round in Palermo where she was well beaten by the same opponent she faces today. 

Chloe Paquet's fortunes have followed that of her opponent in 2024 to a large extent. The French right-hander was a beaten finalist in Saint Malo in April, a semi-finalist in Bellinzona and Koper at the start of that month and reached the quarterfinals in Bengaluru at the start of the year. However, since losing the final in Saint Malo to Lois Boisson, her form has deserted her, with the quarter final loss to Diane Parry in Palermo last week her best performance since. 

Lourdes Carle may have the edge in the ranking, but Paquet's current form is probably slightly better. The winner will face either a qualifier or Ekaterina Makarova in the second round.
