Sixth seed Lorenzo Sonego begins his Moselle Open title defence on Monday with a first-round showdown with unseeded Marcos Giron. The winner will then next play either Hugo Gaston or a yet-to-be-named player from the qualifying rounds. Marcos Giron is back on the courts in Metz after a two-year hiatus. The American arrives here after his first-round exit at the Paris Masters. Giron has been in good form lately and has won seven of his last 10 matches. Five of those victories came in his impressive run in Tokyo where he rose from the qualifiers to make the semifinals. Ranked 59th in the ATP, Giron has won five of nine matches on indoor hard courts.

Lorenzo Sonego is the Metz defending champion. He impressively triumphed here last year without dropping a set and will hope to be as dominant again. The Italian will have to be at his very best to do so as he has struggled with his form throughout the season. Sonego has lost more matches than he has won in 2023 and also arrives here having won once in his last four outings. He has lost his last two matches with the latest coming in the first round of qualifying at the Paris Masters. His recent struggles have seen him drop in the live ranking where he is currently placed 49th in the world. Sonego has however had some bit of success on indoor hard courts where he has compiled a 7-7 record.
