Marcos Giron takes on Sebastian Baez in round one of the hard court Cincinnati Masters. In round two of this hard court tournament, the winner of this match will face either 13th seed Ugo Humbert or unseeded Jordan Thompson. Here's our match prediction for Giron v Baez.

Sebastian Baez is at 20th in the live rankings and a place higher in the ATP Race. The Argentinian has won two ATP titles this year but they were both played on clay. Those two wins came back-to-back in February.

Since then, he's been up and down on clay but did recently reach the last four in Hamburg. Now he has to play on hard courts and he hasn't had a great deal of success on the surface in 2024. His last two matches on hard courts have both ended in defeat.

Marcos Giron has only played Sebastian Baez once before and he lost that match. It was played on clay though and he has a better chance of success on the hard courts of Cincinnati. Giron is 44th in the live rankings but was 37th earlier this month.

That fall occurred because he was defending the points earned when reaching the last 16 of the Rogers Cup in 2023. This year he lost to James Duckworth in his first match. Giron had been rising up the ranking list after winning the Hall of Fame Open grass court event last month.

On hard courts, he has been the runner-up in Dallas this year and also got to the last four in Delray Beach. We tip him to win this match.
