Recent Madrid Masters champion Andrey Rublev is seeded fourth in the Italian Open. He faces unseeded Marcos Giron for a place in round three of this outdoor clay court tournament. For the winner, there's a match against either 31st seed Arthur Fils or qualifier Alexandre Muller. This is another Masters tournament and Rublev will be pleased he's had a good amount of time off court since he won the Madrid title last Sunday. That wasn't an easy win for him as he'd been ill for most of the week. The Russian is sixth in the overall rankings but a place higher in the Live ATP Race. He reached the fourth round here last year and his best ever perfornance in Rome was a quarter-final in 2021. Rublev leads Giron 1-0 in previous meetings but this is their first match on clay.

His opponent is up to 45th in the live rankings after beating Emil Ruusuvouri in the first round of this tournament. He had to come from behind to get that win and all three sets ended in a 6-3 scoreline. The American is attempting to reach the third round in Rome for the second time having got that far two years ago. Giron made it to the last eight in this year's US clay court championships but came into this tournament having lost four successive matches on this surface. His last tournament was on the Challenger Tour where he lost in his first match to Jaume Munar and won only four games. We tip Rublev to win this match in straight sets.
