Eighth seed Arthur Fils and the qualifier Marc-Andrea Husler will square off in the second round in Hong Kong. The winner will then advance to play either Liam Broady or Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. Marc-Andrea Husler has been in excellent form to start the year and is yet to drop a set in his three matches here. He defeated fellow qualifier Vitaliy Sachko by the loss of eight games in the first round. After a disappointing 2023 season, the Swiss couldn’t have wished for a better start to the new season. Last year, Husler, a one-time tour champion, finished with a losing record after suffering defeat 31 times in 51 outings. Nine of his defeats came in 16 matches on hard courts. A former top 50 player, the 27-year-old is currently ranked 194th in the ATP.

While Husler was having one of his worst seasons as a professional, Arthur Fils was having his best-ever campaign. The young Frenchman, in his second season at tour level, compiled a 43-24 record last year. He played in at least the semifinals in eight tournaments across the top two levels and won his maiden tour title in Lyon. His form allowed him to participate in the NextGen Finals where he was a losing finalist. He is currently ranked 36th in the ATP which is a career high placing. One of the favourites to at least make the finals in Hong Kong, Fils started his campaign with a three sets win over the unseeded Borna Gojo.
