Emma Navarro, the sixth seed at this year’s Wuhan Open, will begin her tournament against the unseeded Magdalena Frech. The two will battle in the second round in their fourth career meeting and here’s our prediction for the match.

Frech got back to winning ways after her fourth-round exit in Beijing. Making her Wuhan debut, the in-form Pole saw off the qualifier Mai Hontama 6-0, 6-4 in the first round.

Her eighth win in the last nine matches sent her to 39 wins for the season, tying her record from last season. A win against Navarro will see Frech record 40 wins in a season for the first time since 2017.

The 26-year-old won the Guadalajara Open three weeks ago to claim her maiden tour title. Frech, who defeated Navarro in their first encounter last season, is placed 26th in the live ranking.

After a disappointing early exit on her debut in Beijing two weeks ago, Navarro chose to drop to the Challenger circuit. The American, one of the in-form players this season, participated in the Hong Kong Challenger where she got to the quarter-finals.

Navarro has seen her form dip in recent weeks. She lost three times in her last five matches and before this patch, she had managed seven wins in eight outings. The 23-year-old has claimed a whopping 54 wins this year.

This form resulted in her first tour crown, in Hobart. Navarro also produced semi-final finishes at the US and Canadian Open, with both being career-high results at major and WTA 1000 events.

In this excellent campaign, the world number eight has defeated Frech twice.

The winner of this match will play Beatriz Haddad Maia, Marie Bouzkova or Veronika Kudermetova next.
