Magda Linette, the fourth seed in Prague, will contest this year’s final against sixth seed Magdalena Frech. This Friday encounter will be their second career meeting and the first as a championship match at tour level. Here’s a look at the players’ records coming into this match to inform our prediction.

Magda Linette has progressed to her second tour final of the season and eighth overall in her career. She defeated top seed and last year’s finalist Linda Noskova in straight sets in the semi-finals. The Pole is having an exciting season on clay and has so far won 14 of 20 matches on the surface.

It is in this form that she has secured both of her tour finals. Linette, now up to 43rd in the live ranking, will hope for a different outcome here than in Rouen back in April. The 32-year-old finished as runner-up in Northern France where she was making her championship match debut on clay.

This is Magdalena Frech’s first-ever tour-level final. She achieves this 11 years after she first appeared on the tour. The younger Pole will hope she emerges as champion against her older and much more experienced compatriot.

Having the head-to-head advantage in this fixture will add to her confidence levels. Frech defeated Linette on clay in their only other encounter two seasons ago in the challenger circuit. To advance to the final, Frech battled through three sets to oust tournament surprise package Laura Samson.

She dug her heels to overcome a first-set setback and force a decider that ultimately ended prematurely with Samson’s retirement. Frech has now registered 10 of her 25 wins on clay and is up to 48th in the live ranking.
