It will be an all-Polish showdown at the China Open when second seed Iga Swiatek takes on unseeded Magda Linette on Wednesday. The winner of this third-rounder will play either ninth-seed Caroline Garcia or unseeded Anhelina Kalinina in the quarterfinals. Magda Linette saw her second-round match end prematurely after Jennifer Brady was forced to retire in the first set. She was ahead three games to one. The 31-year-old had battled for more than two hours in the first round against former Beijing champion Victoria Azarenka. She will therefore welcome the extra time to prepare for her biggest match of the season. Linette has had her fair share of top 10 victories in her career. This season already she has recorded one win against a top 10 player. Currently ranked 24th in the live ranking, Linette has won six of her last seven matches.
Iga Swiatek is back to her dominant self. The current world number two has won her two rounds here without dropping a set. Breezing past her opponents has become synonymous with the younger Pole. She defeated Varvara Gracheva by the loss of five games to book this showdown with her older compatriot. Swiatek is making her Beijing debut and is one of the heavy favorites to emerge as champion. She has won four titles thus far and has finished as runner-up another two times. Swiatek has won 59 of the 70 matches she has played. A victory on Wednesday will see her record 60 victories for the second successive season. The four-time Grand Slam champion has won 33 of the 41 matches she has played on hard courts.

Our Magda Linette vs Iga Swiatek Prediction
Our prediction for Magda Linette v Iga Swiatek is for Swiatek to win in three sets. This should be Swiatek’s toughest match in Beijing so far. Linette has been a bit more consistent than Swiatek in her last few matches. This will make her a tough nut to crack and being compatriots doesn’t make it easier for Swiatek. Swiatek’s superb form on hard courts however should see her prevail but we feel she will need a deciding set to do so.
