Eighth seed Daria Kasatkina meets unseeded Magda Linette in the third round of the Wuhan Open This Thursday. This will mark their seventh career meeting and we have the stats leading up to the match and a prediction.

Linette advanced to this round after her second-round tie was cut short due to an injury to her opponent. The Pole had taken a 5-2 lead in the first set against qualifier Lesia Tsurenko before the match ended prematurely.

That marked her 29th win of the season and 10th success on hard courts. Though she has struggled through the season, Linette has had some spectacular moments.

She won the title in Prague to end a four-year wait for a tour crown and was also a finalist in Rouen. Linette, who has claimed two wins against Kasatkina on hard courts, has moved up to 41st in the live ranking.

Kasatkina will be wary of the threat Linette possesses despite her inconsistency. The Russian has the upper hand in this fixture with four wins but in five hard-court duels, it is closely matched.

Kasatkina defeated Linette earlier this season in Brisbane to go 3-2 up in their hard-court duels. To set up another showdown between them, Kasatkina overpowered Bernarda Pera in three sets in the second round.

This was the 35th win of a season that has seen her play in five finals and win one title. Kasatkina triumphed in Eastbourne on grass while three of her five finals have been on hard courts.

Another win will ensure she progresses past the third round in Wuhan for the first time. It will also see her move back to number 10 in the WTA live ranking.

The winner will proceed to play either Cori Gauff or Marta Kostyuk in the quarter-finals.
