23rd seed Magda Linette attempts to reach round three at Wimbledon for the third tme in her career. The Polish player takes on unseeded Barbora Strycova for a place in the third round with Belinda Bencic a possible opponent. Linette reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open this year and began this grass court Grand Slam ranked 24th but was 19th in March of this year. Linette lost to 15th seeded Angelique Kerber in last year's Wimbledon championships. Her two previous tournaments here had seen her get to round three including a win over third seed Elina Svitolina in 2021. This year saw her play two grass court warm-up tournaments winning two matches and losing a couple. The first round saw Linette beat Jil Tiechman for the loss of only five games.

Barbora Strycova was ranked 623rd when this tournament began. The Czech player went into the main draw on a protected ranking so didn't need to qualify. Strycova was ranked as high as 16th but that was six years ago. Two years ago she announced her retirement from tennis but at the age of 37 has now made a comeback. Four tournaments have been played by her this year, two on grass. Strycova lost in the first round in Birmingham but then made it through qualifying in Eastbourne, as a lucky loer. The Czech then lost in the last 32 to Jelena Ostapenko. This is her first Wimbledom Championships since 2019 when getting to the last four. The last eight had been reached by her five years beforehand. This year has seen her defeat unseeded Maryna Zanevska in straight sets. We go for Linette to get the win here.
