Madison Keys and Petra Martic will battle on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Eastbourne International. The winner here will play the winner of the match between third seed Jessica Pegula and fifth seed Cori Gauff in the semifinals. Unseeded Madison Keys started her grass court campaign at Devonshire Park. The American has so far won her first two rounds without dropping a set. She defeated the qualifier Wang Xiyu in the last round. This was her 18th win in the 26 total matches she has played this season. She will hope this strong start here continues in this fourth encounter with Martic which happens to be the first on grass. Keys defeated Martic the second time they met which was four seasons ago and she will hope for a similar outcome here. Advancing to this round has moved Keys up one place to 24th in the live ranking.

Petra Martic has defeated Keys twice with the last victory being a three-set win in Monterrey last season. She will hope for the same fate here to continue riding this second chance she has been given. Martic lost in the qualifying rounds to Ana Bogdan but made it through to the main draw as a lucky loser. She has grabbed the second chance with both hands and has won her two rounds without dropping a set. Luck was however on her side in the last round as eighth seed Beatriz Haddad Maia was forced to retire in the second set. She has now won 17 of the 30 matches she has played with three of those victories coming on grass. Martic has played one final so far and finished as runner-up. The Croat is up two places to number 28 in the live ranking.
