Eighth seed Ons Jabeur and the 18th seed Madison Keys will meet in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open on Tuesday. The winner will then play Iga Swiatek or Beatriz Haddad Maia for a place in the semi-finals. Madison Keys will be seeking her first win over Jabeur in what will be their third meeting. The American defeated compatriot and third seed Coco Gauff in three sets in the last round. It was her first three-setter in the competition. Keys, who had a belated start to the season due to injury, has improved her record to 6-3. Three of her wins have come in four outings on clay. Keys is making her 10th appearance in Madrid and this is so far her best-ever performance here. She had lost in the first round in each of her last five appearances. The win over Gauff has nudged her up four places to 16th in the live ranking.

Ons Jabeur has won both times that she has been paired up against Keys. Their last encounter was two seasons ago in San Jose. She will hope to extend this dominance and inch closer to another Madrid title. Jabeur triumphed in Madrid in 2022, which is the last time she took part in the event. Injuries kept her from defending her title last season and have derailed her for the most part this year. The Tunisian has only played 13 matches in 2024 and has managed just six wins. Four of these however have come on clay. The world number nine defeated ninth seed Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets in the fourth round. It was her first 2-0 win after requiring a decider in the first two rounds.
