Second seed Karolina Pliskova bids to retain her Brisbane International title when she takes on Madison Keys in the final. Pliskova is ranked number second in the world behind Ashleigh Barty, who was top seed for this tournament. However, the world number one lost to qualifier Jennifer Brady in the second round. Pliskova also had a few problems in the second round as she had to go to three sets to defeat qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic, just as was the case in last year's quarter final. Another three setter followed in the semi-finals as Pliskova beat third seed Naomi Osaka after losing the first set. Pliskova beat Lesia Tsurenko in last year's final and will hope to again win this title as she prepares for the Australian Open later this month.

Madison Keys is the eighth seed and won her first three matches without dropping a set but not facing any seeds. That all changed in the semi-final when up against Petra Kvitova. The American lost the first set but won the next two, dropping just five games. Keys, who is ranked 13th in the world but up to 11th in the live rankings, didn't serve that well against Kvitova but her opponent's serving was even worse. That might not be the case here and the tip is for Pliskova to retain her title.
