Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is the ninth seed for the Indian Wells tournament. The Russian takes on unseeded Madison Keys in round two, with the winner up against either 23rd seeded Leylah Fernandez or Alize Cornet. Pavlyuchenkova is 11th in the Live WTA Race so could do with a good run here to boost her chances of making the Tour Finals. The world number 13 has only reached one quarter final since making the final at Roland Garros. It was 12 years ago that Pavlyuchenkova got to the semi-finals of this tournament but she has a good chance of getting a win over Keys.

Madison Keys is the world number 50 but five years ago was as high as seventh in the rankings. This year began with the American in 16th place but her form is nowhere near as good as 2018 when reaching two Grand Slam semi-finals. Keys got to the last 16 at Wimbledon this year but she came into this event having lost her last six matches and only one inlflicted by a player ranked above her. A win finally came when beating Kaia Kanepi in straight sets in round one. The American is 2-2 in previous meetings with Pavlyuchenkova. Their most recent match was on clay in Madrid with the Russian winning in straight sets. Go for her to get another win.
