Fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo and unseeded Mackenzie McDonald will meet on Friday in the semifinals at Eastbourne. A showdown in the final with either Tommy Paul or Gregoire Barrere awaits the winner here. Mackenzie McDonald is through to his second semifinal of the season. He will hope he fares much better than he did at the Delray Beach Open, to reach his second tour final. The American has been strong on grass and has won seven of the 10 matches he has played on the surface thus far. His last victory came in three sets against Mikael Ymer. He dropped the second set, surrendering his first of the competition. McDonald has had a rocky campaign thus far with only three more wins than losses. But as he is a far more experienced player on grass than Cerundolo, he will be confident of maintaining his form here. He is now up 11 places to 53rd in the live ranking.

Francisco Cerundolo is ranked 19th in the ATP which is a career-high placing for him. On account of being a top-five seed here, he began his tournament in the second round and has played two matches. He has won both without dropping a set and to advance to this round, overcame the challenge of Zhang Zhizhen. The win was his third on grass in four matches and 25th overall for the season. Cerundolo has won one semifinal so far in 2023 which was at the Lyon Open. He was however not fortunate enough to win the title. The 24-year-old hasn’t played that regularly on grass and so far has 11 matches on the surface in his career. He has stuttered, winning just six times.
