Eighth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will take on the wildcard Mackenzie McDonald in the second round at the Delray Beach Open. The winner will proceed to a quarter-final tie against Taylor Fritz or Bu Yunchaokete. Below is our prediction for this match. 

Mackenzie McDonald defeated former Delray Open champion Kei Nishikori in the first round. The American won in three sets to claim his first main draw victory at a tour event this season. 

He has now won eight of 12 fixtures and moved up 11 places to 112th in the live ranking. McDonald is a two-time semi-finalist in this event. He made his most recent run to the last four in 2023. 

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina registered victory both times he faced off with McDonald. He won their first meeting on an indoor hardcourt in 2021 and their second outdoors two seasons ago.

This unblemished record in this fixture will have him confident of prolonging his stay in Delray. The Spaniard, making his debut in this event, defeated lucky loser Taro Daniel in straight sets in the first round. 

That was his sixth victory in 10 outings this season and allowed him to move three places to 57th in the live ranking.
