Lyon were given their first taste of defeat in this season’s Challenge Cup last week when they were beaten 52-24 by group leaders Connact on the road. 

That result brought an end to a five-match unbeaten streak, which included back-to-back draws and a victory in the Top 14 - results that took them up to 10th place in the domestic competition. 

However, the hosts are carrying a three-match unbeaten streak at home into this match and have only suffered two defeats in their last 20 matches across all competitions at Stade Gerland. 

Meanwhile, the Free State Cheetahs posted their first win of the Challenge Cup last weekend, thanks to a dramatic late try which earned them a 22-18 victory over Zebre. 

The Cheetahs split their first two matches in this competition one defeat and one draw. However, their recent record is fairly underwhelming with three wins, two draws and five defeats in their last 10 across all competitions. 

The South African franchise lost their only away game in this competition 26-10 to Cardiff last month, but they have a decent away record of eight wins and seven defeats in their last 15 outings.
