Lulu Sun vs Maria Carle Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Monterrey Open

We'll definitely have an unseeded player in the last 16 of the Monterrey Open. That's because Lulu Sun faces Maria Lourdes Carle in the second round of this hard court tournament. Read on to discover our match prediction.

Lulu Sun is the world number 57 which is just below the career-high 53rd achieved last month. The New Zealander has been steadily climbing the rankings this year as she was only 214th at the start of the year. In the Live WTA Race, Sun is 54th.

The 23-year-old made it to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon this year but has also had some success on hard courts with one ITF tournament being won. Last week saw her get through the Cincinnati qualifiers and then beat then world number 31 Linda Noskova in the first round.

A second round loss to Marta Kostyuk followed but good form has again been shown in Monterrey. In round one, Sun beat Chloe Paquet in straight sets, the second going to a tie-break. The winner here takes on either top seed Danielle Collins or Erika Andreeva in round two.

Maria Lourdes Carle is ranked 86th but was as high as 71st in May of this year. The Argentinian came into this tournament having lost her last two matches, one in the first round in Barranquilla, being beaten by a player ranked outside the top 250.

This week didnt start too well either with her losing the first set to eighth seed Veronika Kudermetova 6-1. Carle made a great recovery though and won the next two sets for the loss of nine games. Her best result on hard courts this year has been a semi-final in Puerto Vallarta.

The best results achieved by her this year have been on clay with one WTA title won.  We tip Lulu Sun to win this match.
