Qualifier Lulu Sun’s historic Wimbledon campaign pits her against unseeded Donna Vekic in the quarter-finals. The winner of this Tuesday match will set up a semi-final showdown with either Jasmine Paolini or Emma Navarro. Ahead of their first-ever meeting we offer the stats and prediction below.

Sun is the first woman in 14 years to reach the last eight at Wimbledon as a qualifier and this is her debut at the All England Club. She defeated crowd favourite and former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in three sets to advance here.

Raducanu is the only player to win a major as a qualifier and Sun will hope to emulate her most recent opponent. If she progresses to the semi-finals, she will equal the Wimbledon record for the furthest a qualifier has played. The 23-year-old’s success at SW19 has propelled her a massive 70 places in the live ranking. She is now placed 53rd, the first time she has ranked in the top 100.

Donna Vekic has also set a new personal record at Wimbledon. She defeated Paola Badosa in three sets in the fourth round which was the first time she qualified for week two since 2018. Another win will see her qualify for the last four at a major for the first time.

Considering she is the more experienced tour player, the Croat will be confident of prolonging her stay here. Vekic is a strong grass court player, having won 54 matches on the surface in her career. She has contested five tour finals on grass, winning once.

This year, Vekic has won nine of 12 grass matches a run which has resulted in the highlights of her season. Progressing to this round has moved her right back amongst the WTA top 30. She is currently 28th in the live rankings after making a nine-place leap.
