Luciano Darderi vs Lorenzo Sonego Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Hamburg Open

It's back to clay for Italians Luciano Darderi and Lorenzo Sonego. They meet in the first round of the Hamburg Open and it's Darderi who is the seventh seed. The winner goes into the last 16 and will face either wild card Rudolf Molleker or unseeded Alexander Shevchenko.

The latest world rankings have Darderi in 35th place and that's just one below his career-high achieved last month. He's back up to 34th in the live list and five places higher in the ATP Race. His last tournament saw him lose in round two at Wimbledon to fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

The 22-year-old has won one clay court tournament this year. That was five months ago in Cordoba when he beat Facundo Bagnis in the title decider. He also made it to the quarter-finals in Santiago and the semi-finals in Houston.

Another semi-final was reached in the ATP Tour clay court event held in Lyon.  A title win and a couple of last four appearances on the Challenger Tour show his ability on clay and he will be hard to beat in this match.

Lorenzo Sonego is the world number 52 but five places lower in the Live ATP Race. The 29-year-old also lost in round two at Wimbledon, losing to Roberto Bautista Agut. Unlike his opponent, Sonego didn't play on the South American clay court tour.

He reached the last eight of the Marrakech clay event but only had to win one match to get to that stage. He got to the last 16 in Monte Carlo but only won four of his 11 ATP Tour main draw clay court matches. but did reach one Challenger Tour semi-final in Turin. We tip Darderi to beat him.
