Fifth seed Francisco Cerundolo begins his Argentina Open campaign with a first-round showdown against the unseeded Luciano Darderi. The winner of their second career meeting will face Juan Manuel Cerundolo or Roman Andres Burruchanga next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Luciano Darderi is seeking his first win of the season. The Italian has lost the three matches he has contested this season.

Going back to last year, he has now lost six in a row. Switching to clay, however, will have the 22-year-old confident of a win here. Darderi, who is placed 58th in the live ranking, is a clay specialist.

He won against Cerundolo in their only encounter last season in Houston.

Francisco Cerundolo has also started the season slowly. The Argentine isn’t without a win though, having emerged tops twice in four outings.

Playing on home soil will have him confident of stringing up a couple of victories. The world number 28 is also a clay specialist and a former Buenos Aires finalist. He achieved his run to the final in 2021.

Last season, he suffered an early exit after making at least the quarter-finals for three successive seasons. Both Cerundolo and Darderi haven’t competed since suffering early exits at the Australian Open.
