The 2024 WTA Tour begins with the Brisbane International. The first round sees Ashlyn Krueger take on Lucia Bronzetti and the winner will have a tough opponent in their next match. Waiting for them in round two is the top seed and world number two Aryna Sabalenka. Ashlyn Krueger is currently ranked 82nd in the world which is nine places below her career high that was achieved in September of this year. Krueger began 2023 ranked only 183rd but has been steadily climbing the rankings. The highlight of her year was winning the Japan Open in September. That hasn't really been built on but there have been some tough draws in recent tournaments including having to play Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula.

Lucia Bronzetti is ranked 20 places higher than her opponent but has slipped down the rankings since getting as high as 47th in July. The Italian won one title in the 2023 season but that was on clay and this is a hard court tournament. An ITF final (also on clay) and a grass court WTA title decider was also reached this year. Her last singles tournament was in October losing a quarter final to fellow Italian Jasmine Paolini. Bronzetti was beaten by Krueger in the China Open at the end of September. This looks like being a close match between these two players. Krueger has won more matches on hard courts than her opponent this year and we tip her to get the victory.
