Basavareddy lost his first match on Wednesday, being beaten by Alex Michelsen after winning the first set. He bounced back when beating Juncheng Shang in his second match. The American made a slow start and lost the first set on a 4-3 tie-break. Just to explain that to win a set in this indoor hard court tournament, you have to win four games not the usual six with a tie-break played at 3-3.
No more tie-breaks were needed in this match though. Basavareddy won the next three sets against Shang for the loss of only five games.
Luca van Assche has also beaten Shang this week. The pair faced on Wednesday with the Frenchman winning in four sets. Two of the three sets that he won were done so via a tie-break. He couldn't repeat that form on Thursday though.
The first set against Alex Michelsen was won but he ended up losing the three sets, two going to a tie-break. We tip Basavareddy to win this match and qualify for the semi-finals.
