The qualifier Lucan Van Assche will be seeking an upset when he takes on Adelaide second seed Cameron Norrie next. A battle with either Botic van de Zandschulp or Alejandro Tabilo will await the winner in the quarterfinals. Luca Van Assche has won three of the four matches he has played in 2024. He defeated J.J Wolf in the first round in straight sets. The Frenchman is now up eight places in the live ranking to number 79. Van Assche has won his last three matches after starting the season with defeat in Brisbane. Last year, the 19-year-old won 34 matches and won two challenger titles as well as made the semifinals at the NEXT Gen Finals.

Cameron Norrie defeated Van Assche in the early stages of last season. He won in straight sets on his way to a third-round finish at the Australian Open. The Brit will be hoping for another positive outing against the Frenchman and he starts his campaign proper. Norrie played two matches at the United Cup and won once. Currently ranked 22nd in the live ranking, Norrie is a two-time Adelaide finalist. He finished as runner-up here in 2019 and 2023. Last season’s rise to the final propelled him to two more finals in the first quarter of the year with one of those ending in victory.
