Nardi booked a last eight berth courtesy of a deserved straight sets win over Zizou Bergs. Very few expected the Italian youngster to be at this stage, especially after a loss to Marton Fucsovics in the qualifying rounds.

Quentin Halys will hope to stay fit enough for this match, his second meeting with Nardi. Twice this season, the Frenchman has been forced to retire early, and as fortunes have smiled Nardi’s way, this is a genuine fear.
However, he is enjoying a powerful run in Dubai, his first round win over Andrey Rublev pumping in him much confidence. From a three-set win over the Doha champion, Halys made easy work of his meeting with Roberto Bautista Agut.
He won in straight sets to set up his sixth tour quarter-final, from which he has suffered defeat in three.
