The LA Rams face the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship match. The winners face either the Kansas City Chiefs or Cincinnati Bengals, who play the night before. The Rams are seeded fourth after winning the NFC West with a 12-5 main season record. That put them two wins clear of the 49ers who were third in the same division. Three of the four teams in that division made it to the play-offs. Arizona were second in that division but lost to the Rams 34-11 in the wild card round,scoring 21 points without reply in the first half. Next up for the Rams was a divisional final at reigning Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay. Again, the Rams got off to a great start and after the first two quarters were 20-3 ahead. Tampa fought back but couldn't quite get level and the Rams won 30-27. Their last appearance in the Super Bowl was in the match played in 2019 when losing to the New England Patriots. Only in 2000 have they been Super Bowl champions, back in the day when the team was based in St Louis. Now they have home advantage against the 49ers and their stadium is also due to host the Super Bowl next month, so two home wins to become champions is their task.

It was in 2020 that the 49ers last played in the Super Bowl, losing to Kansas who they could meet in this year's title decider  A win this season will take them level with the Patriots and Steelers as six time Super Bowl winners. Their last Super Bowl victory was in 1995 when defeating the San Diego Chargers.  The 49ers are looking to beat the Rams for the third time this season. They beat them at home in November and then won in LA 27-24 after overtime in the final week of the regular season, after trailing 17-3 at one stage. Seeded sixth for the play-offs, the 49ers have caused two shocks in the past fortnight. They beat the Dallas Cowboy and then knocked out the top seeded Green Bay Packers. Back the Rams to again make a great start and this time keep that lead.
