The Los Angeles Kings host the Vegas Golden Knights at the Crypto.com arena for this Tuesday night NHL matchup. This is a big matchup in the Pacific division as these two teams sit in first and second-place. Vegas hold the top spot currently, with 24 wins, 11 defeats and one overtime loss putting them on 49 points and with a five point lead over their opponents today. The Golden Knights are coming off a shootout win against St. Louis after a 4-4 deadlock, a result which has now made it back-to-back wins for the division leaders as well as six wins from their last 10 games. This will be the Knight’s first road game after a four game home stretch which saw them go 2-2 after losses against the Islanders and Sabres were recuperated with wins over the Coyotes and Blues.
Standing in Vegas’ path is an LA Kings team looking to close the gap on their rivals in the Pacific division with a win. The Kings sit in second-place with 19 wins, 12 defeats and six overtime losses putting them on 44 points. Los Angeles will be hoping for a better performance in this outing after falling to a penalty shootout loss against Arizona with the teams unable to be separated from their 1-1 scoreline after the overtime period. The result snapped a four game winning streak for the hosts and was the first loss after a strong three game homestand which resulted in LA winning all three. They’ll hope to get back to winning ways in front of the home fans here before heading on the road to take on Colorado on Thursday.
The most impressive part of Vegas’ season so far has likely been their superb away form. The Golden Knights have the league’s best away record with 14 wins from their 17 trips and enter this matchup on a current four game road winning streak. Both LA and Vegas rank in the top six in terms of goals scored but it’s the Kings’ defensive fragility that could cause them problems in this game. LA have allowed 128 goals so far this season which actually ranks as the fifth worst defensive record in the league. In addition, this has led to the Kings having a negative goal differential of -7 compared to Vegas who have allowed 100 goals and hold a goal differential of +22.
