Two of the Western Conference’s best teams face off Tuesday night in the NHL when the LA Kings host the Dallas Stars at Crypto.com Arena. The Kings will be looking to bounce back after a 4-2 home defeat to Philadelphia on Saturday, a result which snapped a two game winning streak. Los Angeles has been having a fine season and currently sits second in the Pacific division with a record of 21 wins, 13 losses and six overtime defeats. This puts LA on 48 points and sees them trailing division leaders Vegas by six points in the standings. It’s the Kings’ defense that could ultimately prove to be their Achilles heel this season as their 138 goals allowed is tied for the third highest mark in the entire NHL. In fact, Los Angeles are the only team with a points total above 40 to have a negative goal differential with theirs currently at -6.
They’ll be tasked with trying to slow down one of the league’s best teams in the Dallas Stars, who are sitting atop the Central division with 23 wins, nine losses and six overtime defeats. Dallas holds a five point lead over second-place Winnipeg and they’ll be looking to widen the gap even further as they seek their fifth consecutive win. The Stars are coming off a 5-2 win at home over San Jose in their last outing but have shown no signs of slowing down when they have to play on the road this season. Dallas has won their last five away games with the most recent a 4-1 victory over a tricky Minnesota Wild team. Dallas has all the makings of a legitimate contender this year as they sport a top 10 defense with only 103 goals allowed and the third highest scoring offense with 137 goals.
