Lorenzo Sonego vs Matteo Berrettini Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Stuttgart Open

Seventh seed Matteo Berrettini starts the defense of his Stuttgart Open title on Monday with a first-round match against unseeded Lorenzo Sonego. The winner of this match will advance to play either Daniel Altmaier or Christopher O'Connell in the second round. Lorenzo Sonego will be making his grass debut this season in Stuttgart. The Italian has struggled so far in the campaign and will hope switching to grass brings with it good fortune. Sonego has played 29 matches in 2023 and has a record of 15 wins and 14 losses. He arrives for this match after his fourth-round exit at the French Open. This saw him move up seven places in the live ranking to number 41. Sonego has lost all three matches that he and Berrettini have played against each other.

Matteo Berrettini defeated Sonego in the quarter finals here last season on his way to his title win. It was the last time the two compatriots have met and he will fancy his chances again. He however is expected to struggle with his fitness as this will be his first match after a two-month injury layoff. Berrettini suffered an abdominal injury in Monte-Carlo and his lack of action could play into Sonego's favour. The Italian is a much better player on grass than Sonego and last year won two titles on the surface. Before his injury, Berrettini had compiled a record of nine wins and seven losses. He is currently ranked 21st in the live ranking.
