Lorenzo Sonego vs Jeremy Chardy Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Italian Open

The ATP Rome Open first round will continue this week with Lorenzo Sonego taking on Jeremy Chardy on Thursday afternoon. Sonego hasn’t been able to put a solid run of results together this year and comes into this tournament following a first-round exit at the Madrid Masters at the end of last month. The Italian’s best performance this year came in Montpellier, where he reached the quarter-final stages but was beaten fairly convincingly by Jannik Sinner in straight sets. Currently ranked 48th in the world, Sonego is now 10-12 for the year and 2-3 on the clay after failing to get past the second round in Monte Carlo and Munich prior to that early exit in Madrid. Sonego has beaten this opponent in a challenger event once in the past, and while that may have come on the hard surface, the Italian will take still take confidence from that result to pull off another win this time around. 

Meanwhile, Jeremy Chardy continues to work his way back to full fitness following an injury setback sustained at the Australian Open at the start of the year. Prior to that, the Frenchman had a series of health issues that kept him out for over a year. As a result, Chardy has only played three matches this year and holds a record of 1-2 and a ranking of 591st in the world. While he failed to get past the first round at the Madrid Masters last month, losing to wildcard Hugo Gaston in straight sets, Chardy would have appreciated the court time and will be hoping that he can find his rhythm again here in Rome.
