Lorenzo Sonego vs Andrey Rublev Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP French Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Seventh seeded Andrey Rublev takes on unseeded Lorenzo Sonego in the Roland Garros third round. Round four will see the winner up against either 11th seeded Karen Khachanov or wild card Thanasi Kokkinakis. Rublev began this Grand Slam ranked seventh in the world but is up a place in the live rankings. The Russian is hoping to get to his first Grand Slam semi-final next week. He's reached seven previous quarter-finals but never won one. Two of those last eight appearances have been at Roland Garros in 2020 and 2022. Rublev has already won one clay court tournament this year with success in the Monte Carlo Masters. He followed that up with a run to the final in Banja Luka but lost to Dusan Lajovic. The last two tournaments he's played have both seen him exit at the last 16 stage. He's dropped a set in both of his wins at Roland Garros this week, beating Laslo Djere and Corentin Moutet but never trailing.
Lorenzo Sonego started this tournament in 48th position. He's climbed four places in the live rankings and a win here could take him into the top 40. The Italian got to the fourth round at Roland Garros three years ago. 2023 has seen him yet to reach a quarter-final on clay with two matches lost to players ranked below him. Sonego beat the 30th seeded Ben Shelton in four sets to open up his Roland Garros campaign. He then had a straight sets win over Ugo Humbert. This is only the second time he's won two matches in a clay court tournament in 2023. The pair have had three previous meetings, one being on the Challenger Tour. They are 1-1 on clay with Sonego winning their last match two years ago. Rublev looks to be in the better form and can get the win here.
