Sixth seed Lorenzo Musetti and unseeded Gregoire Barrere have a Wednesday date at the Stuttgart Open. The two meet in the second round of the competition. Musetti defeated qualifier Borna Gojo in straight sets in the first round, starting his grass-court campaign on a high. The win was his first since making his debut on the surface in 2021 and will surely boost his confidence levels. Musetti has had a shaky campaign so far and has a record of 17 wins and 13 losses. The Italian however arrives for this match in strong form having won four of his last five fixtures. He has moved up one place in the live ranking to a new career high of number 16.

Gregoire Barrere started the week in 58th place in the live ranking. He also made his season grass-court debut with a straight-sets win over wildcard Oscar Otte in the first round. Barrere has fared better than Musetti so far this season and currently has a record of 22 wins and 16 losses. Though not a great performer on grass, he is better on the surface than Musetti, with a 17-10 record to prove it. Barrere’s performances this season have seen him win one title on hard court in the challenger circuit. He however comes to this match in woeful form having lost three of his last five matches. The winner of this match will advance to the quarterfinals to play either third-seed Frances Tiafoe or unseeded Jiri Lehecka.
