World number 76 Lorenzo Musetti will be out to cause a French Open first round shock. He takes on the 13th seeded but out-of-form David Goffin. 19-year-old Musetti began the year in 128th position but some good performances have seen him climb the rankings. He's at number 29 in terms of the number of ranking points earned this year. He's certain to be in the NextGen tournament in Milan towards the end of the year. This year has seen him get to the finals of two Challenger tournaments. On the ATP circuit, Musetti reached the semi-finals in Acapulco beating Grigor Dimitrov and Diego Schwartzmann. His preparation for this tournament (his first time in the main draw of a Grand Slam) has included a last eight in Cagliari and semi-finals in Lyon where he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas but did take a set off him.

David Goffin is 20th in terms of ranking points earned this year but would be a lot lower but for winning the tournament held in Montpellier. The next four tournaments that he played only produced two wins. His form improved a bit when the clay court season began, getting to the last eight in Monte Carlo. Only two wins in the next three though and consistency is still a problem. He's won 14 and lost 11 this year, so not the best of records for a seeded player. Back Musetti to get the win here.
