Top seed Lorenzo Musetti begins his ATP Chengdu Open campaign with a second round match against unseeded Christopher O'Connell. Can the seed make it into the last eight of his hard court tournament? Here's our match prediction.

Musetti is 19th in the latest rankings and is hoping to recapture the amazing form he showed in the summer. The Italian reached at least the semi-final of five consecutive tournaments and won an Olympic bronze medal.

That form was shown on grass and clay and he hasn't fared so well on his return to this surface. His last tournament was the US Open and he lost in the last 32 of that hard court Grand Slam.

A win here will take him into his second hard court quarter-final of the year. The other came in Adelaide, though he only had to win one match to get that far.

Christopher O'Connell was ranked 75th in the list published on Monday. He's three places lower in the live rankings as he's defending the points won when reaching the last eight of this tournament in 2023.

The Australian has found some form this month. He won the hard court Challenger Tour tournament played in Guangzhou and has again played well this week in Chengdu. Round one saw him beat Pavel Kotov in straight sets.

If he can beat Musetti he'll go into his second ATP Tour quarter-final of the year. We go for O'Connell to win at least one set in this match.
