Fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti and eighth seed Alexander Bublik will take on each other in the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International championship. The winner will then go on to play either Tommy Paul or Jack Draper for a place in the final. Lorenzo Musetti defeated Jordan Thompson in the last round in straight sets. He gave up five games in the contest as he secured his second win in three matches so far in 2024. Musetti is back in Adelaide after a year away and his win over Thompson was his first in the tournament. The current world number 25 doesn’t much favour hard courts and the surface isn’t one of his best to play on. In his career, he has so far won just four more matches on hard courts than the 35 he has lost.

Alexander Bublik made his season debut in Adelaide and has won the two matches he has contested. He defeated James McCabe in the first round in straight sets then Daniel Evans fell in three in the previous round. Against Evans, the Kazakh was forced to come from a set down to win. The two wins have nudged him up one place to 30th in the live ranking. Bublik defeated Musetti in their only other previous encounter. This was two seasons ago on grass at Queen’s Club. Though Musetti was forced to retire in the second set of that duel, Bublik will be confident of doubling his advantage over him. The 26-year-old is a strong performer on hard courts and has in his career won over 120 matches on the surface.
